How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has two main effects that are crucial for divers:

Reduction of Nitrogen Bubbles: Increasing the pressure in the hyperbaric chamber reduces the size of nitrogen bubbles in the body. This facilitates their dissolution and subsequent expulsion from the body, reducing the risk of serious complications.
Accelerated Nitrogen Elimination: Breathing pure oxygen inside the hyperbaric chamber increases the nitrogen gradient between tissues and lungs. Inhaling only oxygen, without the nitrogen present in normal air, creates a higher concentration of nitrogen in the body than outside, accelerating its elimination through osmosis.
