National and International Certifications

We have a strong commitment to health services, and we show this by the multiple certifications and awards that we have obtained in more than 20 years of service, some of these certifications are:

  • Joint Commission International.

They are the most crucial authority in health services and patient safety. They identify, measure, and share the best quality practices and patient safety throughout the world. Their priority is to ensure the utmost quality standards for patient services; this goes beyond any conventional methods at a regional level. For more information, please click here

In May 2019, JCI accredited our hospital (Costamed Cozumel), and now we are one of the eight hospitals in Mexico with this distinction. 


  • Canadian Healthcare Council.T

The Canadian Healthcare Council is an organization that has worked with the best hospitals and clinics in Canada for over ten years. They offer a model of quality and patient safety structured by maturity levels. These levels help hospitals follow a guide that allows them to improve their methods in quality and efficiency. The objective is to achieve excellence in their processes and patient safety. 

The Canadian Health Council has audited and advised more than 500 elite organizations outside of Canada by using the same standardized methodology. In Mexico, there are more than 20 hospitals certified under their seal of approval. This council works with Mexican hospitals to find which show the most maturity in regards to quality and patient safety. Their objective is to find strategic allies that can help them spread their quality assurance methods.

  • National General Health Board

The National General Health Board (Consejo de Salubridad General) is a collegiate body that directly depends on the President of Mexico. This board is a sanitary authority with normative, executive, and consultative functions. The provisions it issues are general and mandatory in the country.

Through their National Health System for Medical Attention Accreditations, they recognize establishments that voluntarily participate and accomplish the necessary quality standards in medical attention and patient safety.

Presently we are in the process of renewing our accreditations for Costamed Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, and both hospitals are in the enrollment phase. Before long, Costamed Tulum and Puerto Morelos will enroll as well. For more information, please click here.


  • Mexican Board for Medical Tourism. A.C.

The Mexican Board for Medical Tourism (El Consejo Mexicano de la Industria del Turismo Médico) is a non-governmental civil association dedicated to offering specialized assessments for medical tourism. This board strategically links businesses in the health, tourism, wellness, and commercial sectors.

  • The Norwegian Maritime Authority (Sjøfartsdirektoratet). 

The Norwegian Maritime Authority is a government agency responsible for the life, health, and labor conditions of the crew for Norwegian vessels and any vessels that arrive at Norwegian ports.  

Their objective is to ensure that all vessels that arrive in Norway and all Norwegian ships accomplish safety and environmental labor standards. This agency seeks to guarantee that all crew enjoys safe labor and living conditions on board by achieving appropriate international standards.
